Life of Madhya Pradesh, till now! It is speculated that Madhya Pradesh might have been occupied since the Middle Pleistocene era. There have also been discovered Malwa and Kayatha culture in the west India. In the 6th century BCE, Ujjain became a major trade centre; it was the capital of Avanti Kingdom. The Maurya Empire was established around 320BCE. The region was attempted to be taken over by Sakas, Satavahanas, Kushanas and other local dynasties from 1st to 3rd centuries. The Saka rulers were finally defeated by the Satavahana dynasty. 4th and 5th centuries saw the rise of Gupta Empire and Vakatakas. Malwa was annexed and rules by Rashtrakuta Empire from 8th to 10th century. The Rajput clans started their rule in the medieval period. In the 13th century, the Turkic Delhi Sultanate conquered northern Madhya Pradesh. Independent kingdoms emerged after the fall of the Delhi Sultanate in 14th century.
