Panchmarhi , also known as the Queen of the Satpura, is one of the most popular Indian hill stations. This place is located at the Hoshangabad district of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Panchmarhi is located at a height of 1100 metres and is surrounded by the Satpura mountain range. The name Panchmarhi comes from the combination of two words, Panch meaning five and Marhi, meaning caves. It is believed that the five caves found at the top of the hills were built by the five Pandava brothers, of the great Indian epic of Mahabharata. The Four Star Hotels in Pachmarhi promises you one of the best hotel experiences of your life.
Start your journey of Panchmarhi with a visit to the highest peak of the Satpura mountain range, which is the Dhupgarh. It is an ideal place for trekking and the lush green valleys of the site are sure to refresh you. View the city lights of the nearby cities, like Itarsi at night from here. Dhupgarh consists of several fruit orchards, like the custard, tendu and others. Animals like panthers and tigers are rarely seen near the rarely used air strip of Dhupgarh. The Chauragarh is the second highest peak of Panchmarhi. It is a pilgrimage point of Panchmarhi due to the shrine of Lord Shiva located here.
The Jatashankar and the Mahadeo caves are some of the most fascinating natural caves of this hill station. Fresh water drips from the roofs of these caves, a perennial spring being the source of the same. The caves are known by the name of Lord Shiva, due to the rock formation of the caves which resembles the matted locks of Mahadev. Near these caves lies the RajatPratap falls, also known as the Big Falls. It has got its name from the fact that it gushes down from the huge heights of 2800 feet. The JamunaPratap falls is also a beautiful natural waterfall of Panchmarhi, and is also a popular picnic spot.
Visit the Catholic church of Panchmarhi. This is a beautiful church of the city, constructed by the Britishers; the building represents the Irish and French architectural style, while the windows are made of stained, Belgium glass. The attached cemetery of the church consists of graves of warriors of the World War one and World War two. Last but not the least; visit the oldest house of Panchmarhi; the Bison Lodge. At present it is a museum, consisting of the flora and fauna of the city.
