It is located at the district of Hoshangabad, in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The city is located at an altitude of 1100 metres and is surrounded by the Satpura mountain range. Panchmarhi has been named after the five caves built by the five Pandava brothers of the great Indian epic of Mahabharata, in the mythological age; Panch means five and Marhi means caves. Dhupgarh is the highest peak of the Satpura mountain range. It consists of deep lush green valleys from where you can see the city lights of neighbouring cities like Itarsi at night. Dhupgarh is an ideal place for trekking and adventure sports. The Chauragarh is the second highest peak of Panchmarhi. It is also a pilgrimage and consists of a shrine of Lord Shiva. Close to the city lies the B- falls, also known as the Jamuna Pratap falls. The foot of this large waterfall is a beautiful picnic spot. The Tridhara, also known as the Piccadily Circus is also a picnic spot; which is a meeting point of two mountain springs.
